‘Loving father’, 67, named as cyclist who died in city crash

A 67-year-old 'loving father, grandfather and dear friend' has been named as a cyclist who died in a crash in Leicester earlier this month. Hari Narayan was riding his bike in Watermead Way, toward Beaumont Leys[1], when he was involved in a crash with a car shortly before 7pm on Monday, October 16.

The crash happened on the slip road for Red Hill Circle. Emergency services attended the scene, but Mr Narayan was pronounced dead. The four people who were in the car were not injured.

Leicestershire Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) has since been investigating the incident[2]. Meanwhile, Mr Narayan's grieving family have today said life "won't be the same without him".

His family said in a statement: "Hari was a dear friend to many – a loving father and devoted grandfather. He was a dedicated family man.

"He was an inspirational member of the Fijian community who was readily available to support family or friends in need. He was always joking and making others smile through his infectious laughter and childlike humour.

"Life won’t be the same without him and we’d like to thank all our friends and family near and far for their kind words and support during these difficult times."

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, which involved a grey Audi A4, and detectives are still appealing for any witnesses[4] or anyone with information to come forward. Detective Constable Louise Hough, of the SCIU, previously said she believed there were a number of witnesses to the collision.

She said: "Our investigation into the incident – which happened on a busy route – is continuing, and I believe there will be a number of people who witnessed the collision. I’d like to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw the car or cyclist beforehand.

"I’m particularly keen to speak to any motorists with dashcams in their vehicles. Any footage or further details you’re able to provide could help."
