A lane had to be closed on a motorway after an Audi aquaplaned and crashed into the side of a lorry.

The M20 London-bound between junction 2 A20 London Road near Brands Hatch, Longfield[1], and junction 1 M25 near the Swanley Interchange was affected by the crash.

It involved three cars, a red Audi A3 which hit a lorry already parked on the hard shoulder for a previous incident where a blue BMW had also fallen off the highway.

A witness to the crash said: “I was in lane one at the time behind a lorry and the red Audi was overtaking in lane two.

“I went to signal to move over and the Audi then moved to lane three to give me space and went past.

“It must’ve gone 50m up the road before it started aquaplaning from lane one to lane three and back to one again before crashing into the seven-tonne lorry already on the hard shoulder.

“It was there because it had stopped for a blue BMW which had already fallen off the verge earlier.

“I had to stop to avoid the crash and pulled into the hard shoulder. I got out to see if the Audi driver was alright but after that, I got in my van and called the police.

“The paramedics checked everyone over and said they were all fine and left again.

The witness went on to explain the condition of the road.

“It’s alright now but around 9am it was horrendous. I had to have my wipers on full and even then I could only see about 10m in front of me.”

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 9.06am, to a collision involving three vehicles on the M20 between junctions 2 and 1.

“Officers attended the scene where one of the drivers reported a minor injury.”

One lane was closed while arrangements were made to recover one of the vehicles.

An ambulance service spokesman said: “We attended the scene but were cleared soon after arrival.

“No one required hospital treatment.”

The vehicles have since been cleared.
