ISLAND LINE TO RESUME 2-TRAIN SERVICE – BUT NOT TO THE …

Island Line is back up to 2 trains an hour, but only between Ryde St John’s and Shanklin.

Recent heavy rain and flooding led to the suspension of Island Line trains for several days, with an hourly service resuming last Wednesday.

South Western Railway resumed a 2-train service last Friday but rail replacement buses will continue to run between St John’s Road and Ryde Pier Head to connect with Wightlink’s FastCat service until further notice.

Although Ryde Tunnel is now clear of flooding, Storm Ciaran caused damage to Ryde Pier which means trains are still unable to serve Ryde Esplanade and Ryde Pier Head.

Engineers will start carrying out further inspections and repairs this week to enable trains to run through to Pier Head again, but an exact date of when services will fully resume has not been given.

A spokesperson for South Western Railway has said:

“We’re sorry for the disruption to Island Line customers’ journeys”.
