Hunt for driver after crash through M6 roadworks sees lamppost hit …

Police are hunting the driver of an abnormal load after a lorry crashed through roadworks on the M6. Police said a truck entered a restricted area and collided with a lamppost which fell into the opposing carriageway.

Traffic officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group (CMPG) were forced to close carriageways in both directions between junctions 6 for Birmingham C and NE and 5 for Birmingham E and Sutton Coldfield[1]. The lamppost was later removed and thankfully no-one was injured.

Police are continue to investigate the incident, which happened at about 2am on Wednesday, November 22. They are also seeking to locate the vehicle involved in the smash.

A police statement said: "We are appealing for information after the M6 was forced to close following a collision with street furniture. We were called to the M6 northbound carriageway near to junctions 6 and 5 just after 2am today (Wed) when a lorry carrying an abnormal load entered a road works restricted area and collided with a lamppost causing it to fall into the opposing carriageway.

"The lamppost struck a number of vehicles causing damage and officers from the Central Motorway Policing Group (CMPG) were forced to close both carriageways while the lamppost was removed. Officers are now appealing for information as they continue to investigate the incident and to locate the vehicle involved.

"Thankfully no-one was injured, but we need people to contact us if they have any dashcam footage or witnessed the incident.
