Horse rider in Royal Stoke with ‘potentially serious injuries’ after A53 …

A horse rider is being treated in Stoke-on-Trent's main hospital this afternoon after an 'incident with a car'. The A53 was closed through Longsdon - between Sutherland Road and City Lane - for a period this morning after the alarm was raised at 9.27am today.

The road had reopened by lunchtime. The condition of the horse is not yet known.

StokeonTrentLive is still waiting for a statement from Staffordshire Police[1] regarding this morning's incident. But West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] has confirmed it was sent to the scene.

An ambulance service spokesman said: "We were called to an incident at the junction of the A53 and School Lane, near Longsdon, at around 9.30am. An ambulance, a paramedic officer, and a BASICS doctor were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews discovered there had been an incident involving a horse rider and a car.

"The horse rider, a woman, was treated for potentially serious injuries and taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[3] for further treatment."

Any witnesses should call the police on 101.
