East Lothian locals ‘stranded’ after road closure following major …

Some East Lothian locals were reportedly 'stranded' after a road was closed[1] on Thursday evening during rush hour.

On November 2, a yellow weather[2] warning for rain was issued to East Lothian,[3] which is still in place until 6pm Friday. Localised flooding has been reported around Edinburgh and in parts of East Lothian with the A199 road closed. The A199 road was met with traffic tailing back as rush hour hit with buses diverted to the A1.

Lothian Buses announced to customers that Service 106 and X7 were unable to service the A199 and East Linton. However, locals commented on the post arguing that people in East Linton were left 'stranded' due to the diversion.

In an image shared with Edinburgh Live, a Borders Bus was held up on the road while highway maintenance workers tried to deal with the flooding. Queues of traffic could be seen waiting.

Taking to social media, East Coast Buses which is run by Lothian Buses, wrote: "Due to a road closure buses are unable to serve A199 and East Linton and are instead diverted via A1 in both directions until further notice."

Before the road closed, traffic was tailing back in the area with delays as cars and public transport attempted to make it through the flooding. Drivers reported being stuck on the road for an hour and warned others to avoid the area as others were seen making a U-turn.

The Met Office has updated the yellow weather warning for East Lothian, ending it at 6pm. SEPA have also put Edinburgh and the Lothians under a flood alert as outbreaks of rain are expected to continue through the day.
