Dashcam footage as speeding driver flees in bid to evade police

This is the moment a 'reckless' motorist drove on the wrong side of a residential road at 60mph in a desperate bid to lose police in pursuit. Officers were in the Wellesbourne area as part of enquiries into a different incident when they pulled over Amarildo Shabani's car as he approached the Warwickshire village.

Shabani pretended to pull over before speeding off on wet, slippery roads in a pursuit recorded by a dashcam in the police car behind. Footage of the chase, which unfolded on November 1, shows Shabani hitting speeds of 60mph in a 30mph zone and repeatedly drifting onto the wrong side of the road.

Shortly after overtaking a van on a bend, the 48-year-old loses control when breaking suddenly for a roundabout and leaves the road onto a banked grass verge, narrowly missing a group of trees. Following a short foot chase, not included in the video, Shabani was arrested and cocaine seized from him.

Shabani, of no fixed abode, later pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving without a licence and possession of cocaine. He was jailed for 44 weeks at Warwick[2] Magistrates' Court on Friday, November 3.

PC Nikki Stubbs from the Warwickshire[3] Police Patrol Investigation Unit said: "Shabani drove recklessly and dangerously, and it was only thanks to the quick reactions of other road users that there wasn’t a serious collision. Fortunately, justice was served swiftly and he will now be spending time behind bars."
