Merseyrail services resume after Storm Babet disruption

Services faced major disruptions after Storm Babet battered the region on Friday (October 20).

Met Office experts issued Wirral residents with a “danger to life” yellow weather warning which came into force from Midnight on Friday.

Heavy and persistent rain downpours were seen across the borough causing flooding, road closures, and railway cancellations.

All services between Rock Ferry and Ellesmere Port were suspended due to ongoing flood issues on the tracks at Hooton. A limited rail replacement bus service was in operation from Rock Ferry on both lines in both directions.

Chester and Ellesmere Port lines were suspended until this morning (Sunday, October 22). Merseyrail confirmed on social media this morning that services had now “resumed”.

A spokesperson for Merseyrail said: “Services on the Wirral line have now resumed following extreme flooding in the past 48 hours.”
