On October 17, 1967 the Telegraph & Argus reported "the night it rained...and rained...and rained".
'West Riding under Flood Siege' was the headline of the front page story: "The West Riding and the rest of Britain started a massive clean-up operation today after a night of some of the fiercest gales for years left a trail of damage, with many town centres flooded, rail and road links broken, people and animals rescued as flood water washed out homes and the countryside, factories' production halted and motorists were stranded."
Incidents reported included a thunderbolt through a roof in Skipton[1], flooded basements, uprooted trees, blocked roads and burglar alarms going off.
