Impressive Model Railway Day at King’s Lynn’s London Road …

The Railways featured in the column last week and I certainly enjoyed visiting The Model Railway Day at Lynn’s London Road Methodist Church last Saturday. I was impressed with the layouts on display and learnt a lot about Hornby and the train set manufacturers, Meccano. Moving from the railways to buses! I was impressed using the new 3H bus service run by the GTT company recently. It enables passengers to travel by bus to destinations between South Lynn and South Wootton, Monday to Saturday. Passengers can reach Lynn Rail Station, Bus Station, London Road South Gates, St James’ Health Centre, The Grange Estate and several other useful locations along the route; for further details visit: www.gtt-online.co.uk, or pick up a physical timetable.
Also on my travels I dropped in to view The Wonder Room Exhibition of work by artist Christine Pike, MA at Lynn’s Custom House, one of the Greyfriars Art Spaces series of exhibitions. An impressive body of work, much in the Papercley medium. The exhibition can still be viewed between 10am and 4pm today (Friday) and tomorrow (Saturday). And so to the movies. Lynn’s Alive Corn Exchange is holding The Fear In The Fens Festival on Saturday, October 28, including three thrilling vintage films, (18 and over only), talks by leading experts, and locally made shorts. You can vote for your favourite!

For general release from today is Martin Scorsese’s film: Flowers of the Killer Moon. A movie set in 1920s America, based on true events, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Another box office success, I’m sure.
For all Star Trek fans and admirers of fine actors my book recommendation of the week has to be Patrick Stewart’s autobiography, ‘Making It So: A Memoir’. Patrick Stewart had already enjoyed a distinguished theatrical career, (especially as a Shakespearean actor), before becoming a household name as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek - The Next Generation- a first-rate Star Trek series. Patrick was spotted a few years ago filming in West Norfolk, and staying in Lynn. This memorable memoir is out now.
There will be numerous Halloween Events taking place in, and around West Norfolk, no doubt, very spookily soon. Visit The Borough Council’s Website for details of some.
It’s that time of the year ( almost!), when we remember that infamous Gunpowder Plot, on or around November 5. Lynn’s main celebration will be held in The Walks, starting at 6pm, on the evening of Friday, November 3. All the usual fun and entertainment will be provided . There will be live music, Simon Rowe entertaining, and the brilliant firework display expected to be let off around 8pm. The event is free, but donations welcomed to go toward costs. West Norfolk Council organises The Fawkes in the Walks event, usually every year.
Firework displays and entertainment will also be held at venues in Hunstanton and Downham organised by their respective Round Table organisations, on Saturday, November 4.
Westacre Theatre’s Autumn and Winter programme is now published, with plenty to entertain and inform. Alan Ayckbourn’s clever and entertaining play: Private Fears in Public Places, directed by Matt Grist, is currently being performed, and well worth booking tickets for. Tickets should still be available for Thursford’s Christmas Spectacular, but seats sell fast, so don’t delay, book today, as some say.
