Drink driver involved in Cambridgeshire morning crash three times …

A drink driver who went head-on into another vehicle while more than three times the legal limit has been disqualified. Frank Weitner, 42, of Knaphill Crescent, Northampton, was driving a white Renault van along the B645 at Hail Weston on May 15 at around 10.20am.

He then crashed into a blue Volvo V70, with the 42-year-old breathalysed at the scene. Weitner blew 123 microgrammes at the roadside, more than three times the legal limit of 35 microgrammes per 100 millilitres of breath.

He later provided a blood sample at 3.22pm with 177 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood, with the legal limit being 80. At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court[1] last Thursday (October 12), Weitner pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified from driving for three years.

Detective Constable Billie Baker, who investigated, said: “It’s lucky that the other driver was not seriously injured or worse. There is no excuse for drink driving, it puts the lives of other road users at risk. This sentence now means he’ll be off the road from some time and we hope he reflects on his actions.”

Drink and drug driving can be reported through a dedicated, confidential hotline 0800 032 0845 which is available 24/7.
