Collision investigators are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist has been left in hospital following a 'serious' crash in North Staffordshire. Police[1] and paramedics had been called out to Biddulph's[2] Congleton Road where the route was shut off last night.

Today the force is appealing for witnesses after confirming the cyclist, who had been involved in a collision with a Ford Mondeo, sustained a head injury. The man, in his 50s, was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[3] and is in a stable condition.

StokeonTrentLive reported[4] earlier today how West Midlands Ambulance Service[5] sent sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, and a BASICS emergency doctor to the scene just before 6pm last night. The route was subsequently closed off for a number of hours as an investigation got underway.

A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "We are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Biddulph.

"We were called to Congleton Road just after 6pm yesterday (October 16) following reports of a collision involving a cyclist and a red Ford Mondeo. We attended the scene alongside West Midlands Ambulance Service.

"The cyclist, a man in his 50s, sustained a head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. He remains in a stable condition. The road was closed whilst a detailed examination of the scene was carried out. The driver of the car remained at the scene and assisted officers with inquiries.

"Anyone who witnessed the collision, or those with CCTV and dashcam footage from the area, are asked to contact us."

A spokeswoman for the ambulance service said: "Upon arrival, we found a cyclist being cared for by bystanders. He was assessed by ambulance staff and had serious injuries.

“He received advanced trauma care from ambulance staff at the scene before being conveyed to the Royal Stoke University Hospital[7] for further treatment. The driver of the car did not require treatment from ambulance staff.”

Witnesses should call 101 and quote incident 562 of October 16. Or e-mail the collision investigators on [email protected].
