BMW flips onto side at ‘accident blackspot’ as campaigner demands …

A BMW flipped onto side on an 'accident blackspot' road - as a councillor continued calls for better safety measures. The silver-coloured vehicle had rolled onto its right handside and was left lying on the pavement along the A4123 Wolverhampton Road in Oldbury[1].

West Midlands Ambulance Service[2] (WMAS) said it was called to the scene of a 'road traffic collision' at 12.52pm however 'no patients' were found at the scene. A photograph taken by Cllr Jay Anandou showed West Midlands Police[3] officers examining the vehicle, which had a crack windscreen.

The glass for the sunroof had also been removed. A spokesperson for WMAS said: "We were called at 12.52pm to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Bradhall Road and the A4123 in Oldbury.

"A paramedic officer attended the scene. Upon arrival, no patients were found at the scene and we were stood down as our assistance was no longer required."

Cllr Anandou, who represents Old Warley ward on Sandwell[6] Council, has been leading repeated calls for authorities to improve road safety measures on Wolverhampton Road at the junction with Queensway, which is near where the BMW crashed. He called the Wolverhampton Road a 'death trap' and residents told BlackCountryLive[7] how they avoid using it out of safety fears.

Cllr Anandou said: "Time and again, regular accidents in the area highlight the ongoing issue with traffic and poor road safety measures at the Queensway junction. We need four-way traffic lights at this junction or, as a temporary measure, the central reservation need to be closed."

Cllr Anandou fears the situation will worsen if plans are approved to build 190 homes on the former Brandhall Golf Course, located nearby. West Midlands Police has been approached for comment in relation to the crash.
