Biker fighting for life in Royal Stoke after lorry crash

A biker is today fighting for his life in Stoke-on-Trent's main hospital after a lorry crash. The collision between the lorry and the motorbike shut the A523 Macclesfield Road, through Rushton Spencer, for a number of hours.

The collision happened just before 3pm on Thursday, October 26. Now the biker is today in a 'critical' condition at the Royal Stoke University Hospital[1].

A Staffordshire Police[2] spokesman said: "We were called to Macclesfield Road following reports of a collision involving a lorry and a motorbike. We went to the scene along with West Midlands Ambulance Service and found a red lorry and a blue Yamaha motorbike involved in a collision.

"The road was closed in both directions and later reopened. The rider, a man in his 30s, sustained back and shoulder injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. He is currently in a critical but stable condition. The driver of the lorry stayed at the scene to help officers with their inquiries."

Paramedics were called to the scene at 2.55pm yesterday.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service[3] spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on the A523. An ambulance and a paramedic officer were sent to the scene where, on arrival, crews found a motorbike had come off the road. The motorcyclist, a man, was treated for potentially serious injuries and conveyed on blue lights to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for further treatment."

Anyone who saw the crash, or the vehicles in the lead up to the collision, should call the police on 101.
