Amazon van stolen in broad daylight while doing deliveries

A van delivering Amazon orders to the people of Brislington[1] was stolen in broad daylight during a brazen theft[2]. An eyewitness reported seeing the suspect make off with the van while parcels were being delivered to their home on Wednesday afternoon.

Despite the best efforts of the driver, who reportedly pursued on foot, the thief made off with the van and its contents from Hungerford Road. The vehicle was later recovered a short distance away in Durweston Walk.

It's understood that, while the van was not marked with Amazon branding, the driver was making deliveries on behalf of the online retail giant.

"Someone just stole an entire Amazon van in Brislington[5], Hungerford, while the driver was walking to our house," said the eyewitness on social media. "Driver chucked our parcels onto the ground and chased after the van on foot, obviously not catching it."

Police have now issued a description of the suspect in a bid to track him down. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "A white Ford Transit delivery van was stolen in Brislington on Wednesday, October 25.

"Officers on patrol were flagged down by the victim in Hungerford Road at about 4.20pm and told an unknown person had stolen the vehicle. The suspect was described as white, male, in his 40s or 50s, short, of slim build and wearing dark clothing and a grey winter's hat.

A group allegedly attempting to steal a motorbike in broad daylight in Clifton It came in the same week as a group allegedly attempted to steal a motorbike in broad daylight in Clifton

"House-to-house enquiries have commenced in an effort to track down the suspect. The van was found in the early hours of yesterday morning (Thursday 26 October) a short distance away in Durweston Walk and has been recovered.

"Anyone with information about the thefts or footage from the area is asked to please contact us on our website or call 101 and quote reference number 5223261187."

The van theft followed a similarly brazen incident in Clifton[6] earlier this week which saw a masked gang allegedly attempt to steal a motorbike. Two teenagers have been arrested[7] after members of the public were threatened[8] during the alleged robbery which took place on Monday (October 23).

Members of the public reported the incident, which took place in Berkeley Square, to police at 3.44pm. After being challenged by witnesses, three young men fled towards Park Street on a motorbike, said police.

It was confirmed on Thursday evening (October 26) that two boys, aged 16 and 17, have been arrested on suspicion of robbery. They remain in police custody.
