Rail chaos will cripple the UK's network for THIRD weekend in a row... and train strikes aren't to blame this time
Beleaguered rail passengers face a third weekend of chaos in a row amid major engineering works across Britain following two consecutive Saturdays of strikes.
Most operators have a partially reduced service or replacement buses planned for this weekend as a raft of improvement projects take place on mainline routes.
Among the worst hit will be South Western Railway, with trains to and from London Waterloo badly affected by lines in Wimbledon closing - and seven replacement bus routes set to run into South West London to and from Clapham Junction.
Those using Avanti West Coast will face a reduced service to and from London Euston due to works in Northampton, while passengers on LNER, Hull[2] Trains and Lumo will suffer extended journey times due to a diversionary route via Hertford.
CrossCounty and Chiltern trains between Banbury and Oxford will be replaced by buses, as will West Midlands Railway services between Worcester and Hereford.
It follows widespread disruption last Saturday due to a walkout by Rail, Maritime and Transport union (RMT[3]) members at 14 train operators and drivers in the Aslef union refusing to work overtime shifts – following an Aslef strike the previous day.
There was also an RMT strike on Saturday, August 26. But, in a small piece of good news, the RMT walkout planned for CrossCounty this Saturday has been cancelled.
Campaigners condemned the disruption as they hit out at the 'seemingly endless disruption to services' and called for works to 'happen at more convenient times'.
Michael Roberts, chief executive of London TravelWatch, told MailOnline: 'We recognise that engineering work needs to take place regularly on the railway, especially around the safety-critical maintenance of tracks and signalling. But passengers will be exasperated at the seemingly endless disruption to services.
'The very least they need is advance notice from both train operators and Network Rail[4] so they don't get caught out and can plan well ahead. There needs to be good information available - including advice around alternative travel options - at stations, on board trains, online and in local press so that awareness about any potential disruption is high.'
Rail industry sources told MailOnline there is normally an increase in engineering works across the network once the summer holidays have finished because operators want to keep weekends over that busy period as open as possible.
They also pointed out that strikes are usually announced a few weeks before they happen - engineering work is planned years in advance, and cancelling it at short notice would cost millions of pounds and leave the railway less well maintained.
But Norman Baker, from the Campaign for Better Transport, said: 'Engineering works are inevitable - but, with the rise of leisure travel by train, it is incumbent on Network Rail to make sure that these works happen at more convenient times.'
A Network Rail spokeswoman told MailOnline: 'There is never a good time to close parts of the rail network but work to maintain and upgrade the railway is vital to ensure the safe running of the railway for the millions of people who use it every day. The majority of work is planned months and often years in advance so that disruption is kept to a minimum.
'However, we acknowledge that some journeys will be affected and would remind rail passengers when planning their journeys to check before they travel.'
Here, MailOnline looks at how the UK's rail services will be impacted this weekend:
AVANTI WEST COAST
There will be a reduced service to and from London[5] Euston on Saturday and Sunday due to some lines being closed by engineering work in the Northampton area.
A reduced service of one train per hour will operate on the following routes:
- London Euston to Glasgow[6] Central
- London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly via Stoke-on-Trent
- London Euston to Manchester Piccadilly via Crewe
- London Euston to Liverpool Lime Street
- London Euston to Birmingham New Street
- London Euston to Preston / Edinburgh (via Birmingham New Street).
Services to / from Holyhead will run between Crewe and Holyhead only.
Additionally, on Sunday the 6.34pm Glasgow[7] Central to London Euston service will be diverted between Rugby and Milton Keynes and will not call at Northampton. A rail replacement bus service will run between Rugby and Northampton.

Normal service on Saturday.
On Sunday, engineering work at Liverpool Street means platforms 13 to 17 will be closed - and c2c services to the station may be adjusted and retimed accordingly.
Also on Sunday, engineering work between Barking and Grays via Rainham means rail replacement buses will operate between Grays, Purfleet, Rainham, and Upminster.
Passengers travelling to/from Dagenham Dock can use Transport for London buses, with ticket acceptance on the EL2 and 287 between Barking – Dagenham Dock – Rainham.
CALEDONIAN SLEEPER
No trains on Saturday night as normal.
On Sunday, there is a change to the Inverness to London Euston service. Boarding from 7.45pm, departure at 8.25pm and arrival at 8am. The service will not be calling at Gleneagles, Dunblane, Stirling or Falkirk Grahamston.
CHILTERN RAILWAYS
The ten-week line closure between Princes Risborough and Aylesbury for work to allow HS2 lines to pass under the existing railway began continues until October 29.
In addition, this Saturday on Sunday planned engineering work is taking place between Bicester North and Banbury – with rail replacement buses replacing trains.
There will be no trains to or from Bicester North railway station all weekend, with Chiltern Railways asking passengers to instead travel via Bicester Village station.
Also on Sunday, there will be no trains between Oxford Parkway and Oxford, and rail replacement buses will run between the two stations. The railway will be completely closed at Oxford so any onward journeys from Oxford will also be affected further.
CROSSCOUNTRY
CrossCountry was due to be impacted by industrial action by the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union on Saturday, but this has now been suspended. A normal service with some planned engineering work will operate across the network.
On Saturday, rail replacement transport will operate between Banbury and Oxford. On Sunday, buses replace trains between Banbury, Oxford and Didcot Parkway. On Sunday, rail replacement transport will operate between Plymouth and Penzance.
Also on Sunday, the 10.27am and 11.27am Stansted Airport to Birmingham New Street services will start from Cambridge. The 9.15am and 10.15am Cambridge to Stansted Airport train services will be replaced by rail replacement road transport.
DOCKLANDS LIGHT RAILWAY
Normal service all weekend.
EAST MIDLANDS RAILWAY
A reduced service to and from Newark Castle has been in place since September 2 and will continue until Sunday, inclusive. All services to/from Newark Castle, Leicester-Lincoln-Grimsby and Crewe-Nottingham-Newark Castle routes are affected.
Also on Saturday and Sunday, there will be an amended early morning East Midlands Railway service between Derby and London St Pancras International.
And on Saturday, there will be an amended 5.20am Nottingham to Liverpool Lime Street service.
On Sunday, there will be no East Midlands Railway trains to or from Stockport. This will affect services between Liverpool Lime Street and Norwich.
There will also be an amended early morning East Midlands Railway service to and from Nottingham on Sunday, affecting trains between Derby and Nottingham.
And Sunday will also bring a reduced East Midlands Railway service to and from London St Pancras International.
ELIZABETH LINE
Normal service all weekend.
EUROSTAR
Small changes affecting Eurostar trains 9021 and 9053 from Paris Gare du Nord to London St Pancras International on Sunday to 'avoid conflicts with local services'.
Train 9021 from Paris Gare du Nord will leave at 10.43am, seven minutes earlier than planned. However, passengers will arrive in London at 12pm as previously scheduled.
Train 9053 from Paris Gare du Nord will leave at 6.36pm, seven minutes earlier than planned. Passengers will arrive in London at 8pm, again as previously scheduled.
GATWICK EXPRESS
Normal service all weekend.
GRAND CENTRAL
Normal service on Saturday.
On Sunday, the following services will be diverted via Hertford North:
- The 8.04am, 12.10pm and 3.12pm Bradford Interchange to London King's Cross
- The 11.50am, 3.50pm and 7.27pm London King's Cross to Bradford Interchange
- The 9.24am, 10.28am, 12.13pm, 2.14pm and 6.14pm Sunderland to London King's Cross trains
- The 9.49am, 1.50pm, 3.23pm, 4.53pm and 6.22pm London King's Cross to Sunderland trains
The following services will not run:
- The 3.59pm Bradford Interchange to London King's Cross service
- The 6.53pm London King's Cross to Bradford Interchange service
GREAT NORTHERN
Normal service on Saturday.
On Sunday, before 7.30am no trains will run between Finsbury Park and Moorgate / London King's Cross. Passengers can use tickets on the London Underground's Victoria and Piccadilly line and London buses between Finsbury Park and London King's Cross.
Also on Sunday, all day trains to and from Peterborough, Cambridge and King's Lynn will be diverted to run via Hertford North, running to an amended timetable.
Trains between Moorgate and Stevenage will have a reduced timetable. Trains between Moorgate and Welwyn Garden City will run between Moorgate and Potters Bar only.
Replacement buses will run between Potters Bar and Stevenage via Welwyn Garden City.
On Sunday, there will be amended late night services to and from Arlesey due to engineering work taking place between Hitchin and Biggleswade.
Between 11.30pm and 5am the following morning, some trains will not call at Arlesey. Replacement buses will run between Hitchin and Biggleswade, calling at Arlesey.
GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY
OXFORD
On Saturday, replacement buses will run between Oxford and Banbury. On Sunday, replacement buses are planned to run between: Oxford and Didcot Parkway/ Hanborough/Banbury/Oxford Parkway; and Didcot Parkway and Hanborough (non-stop).
NORTH DOWNS
Engineering work will affect train services between Guildford and Redhill or Gatwick Airport, with replacement buses across the weekend.
CORNWALL
Engineering work on Sunday between Saltash and St Erth will affect train services across much of Cornwall. No trains will run between Plymouth and Penzance, including branch lines to Newquay and Falmouth Docks.
Trains will still be running between: Plymouth and Gunnislake; Liskeard and Looe; Penzance and St Erth; and St Erth and St Ives
Replacement buses are planned to run between: Plymouth and Liskeard/St Austell/Penzance; St Austell and Penzance/Newquay; and Truro and Falmouth Docks.
PORTSMOUTH
Engineering work will affect train services between Fareham and Portsmouth Harbour. Replacement buses are planned to run between the stations.
BRISTOL-WORCESTER
In connection with changes on the route between London Paddington and Worcester / Great Malvern / Hereford via Oxford, amendments will apply to services between Worcester Foregate Street and Bristol Temple Meads (and beyond):
- The 11.38am Bristol Temple Meads to Worcester Foregate Street service will extend to Great Malvern.
- The 1.47pm Worcester Foregate Street to Bristol Temple Meads service will start from Great Malvern at 1.42pm, calling at Malvern Link at 1.45pm.
- The 3.38pm Bristol Temple Meads to Worcester Foregate Street service will extend to Malvern Link and Great Malvern.
- The 5.37pm Worcester Foregate Street to Portsmouth Harbour (terminating Southampton Central) service will start from Great Malvern at 5.44pm.
GREATER ANGLIA
IPSWICH TO NORWICH
Track and overhead line renewal works between Ipswich and Norwich mean buses will replace trains between the two stations across the weekend.
Hourly non-stop buses will operate between Ipswich and Norwich, taking about 90 minutes. Hourly 'stopper' buses will operate between Ipswich and Norwich via Stowmarket and Diss, taking approximately two hours.
For passengers travelling between Norwich station and London Liverpool Street whom wish to avoid the engineering work, a small number of extra 'relief' trains are being provided between Norwich and Cambridge on Saturday and Sunday (via the Thetford route) which connect with Greater Anglia West Anglia services between Cambridge and London Liverpool Street.
On Saturday the hourly London Liverpool Street to Colchester Town train service is diverted to Ipswich, with a connecting shuttle train service operating between Colchester and Colchester Town.
IPSWICH-CAMBRIDGE-PETERBOROUGH
Track and overhead line renewal works taking place between Ipswich and Norwich mean buses will replace trains between Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds all day on Saturday and Sunday.
Connecting train services will operate between Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge, and between Bury St Edmunds and Peterborough.
WICKFORD-SOUTHEND VICTORIA
Drainage works taking place between Wickford and Southend Victoria mean buses will replace trains between Wickford and Southend Victoria from 6.30am on Saturday until close of service, and from start of service until 11pm on Sunday.
Before 6.30am on Saturday morning and after 11pm on Sunday night, trains will run to/from Southend Victoria as normal.
LONDON-CAMBRIDGE-STANSTED
Tack and overhead line maintenance work taking place between Broxbourne and Audley End/Stansted Airport means that until 11.10am on Sunday morning, a half-hourly train service will operate between London Liverpool Street and Broxbourne via Tottenham Hale, connecting into two rail replacement bus routes:
One is a half-hourly non-stop bus Broxbourne to Stansted Airport for Stansted Express passengers, taking approximately 50 minutes.
The other is a half-hourly local bus Broxbourne to Audley End, via Stansted Airport. Roydon station cannot be served by buses due to inaccessible roads.
At Audley End, connecting half-hourly train services will operate to/from Cambridge/Cambridge North.
The engineering works were previously due to finish at 9.10am on Sunday but have been extended by two hours to facilitate the repair of track at Bishops Stortford.
HEATHROW EXPRESS
Normal service all weekend.
HULL TRAINS
On Sunday, trains will divert via the Hertford loop and journey times will be extended due to engineering works taking place between London King's Cross and Stevenage.
ISLAND LINE
Normal service all weekend.
LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY
On Sunday, London North Eastern Railway (LNER) will operate up to three trains per hour in each direction on a diversion between London King's Cross and Stevenage.
Southbound trains will arrive up to 20 minutes later than normal, while northbound services will depart up to 20 minutes earlier than normal.
Other services will start and terminate at other locations or be cancelled.
SATURDAY
Engineering work will be taking place all day between Stirling and Perth.
LNER services to and from Inverness will travel on a diversionary route between Perth and Haymarket and will be unable to call at Falkirk Grahamston, Stirling or Gleneagles.
A rail replacement coach service will operate each way between Edinburgh Waverley, Falkirk Grahamston, Stirling, Gleneagles and Perth.
SUNDAY
Engineering work will be taking place all day between London and Stevenage. There will be a reduced service throughout the day.
- Trains will travel on a diversionary route and journey times will be extended by about 15 minutes.
- Northbound services will depart London King's Cross up to 15 minutes earlier than usual.
Engineering work will also be taking place in the late evening between York and Newcastle.
- The 9.47pm from London King's Cross to Newcastle will terminate at York.
- A rail replacement coach service will operate from York to Northallerton, Darlington, Durham and Newcastle.
The following extra trains will be run for customers travelling to Newcastle for the Great North Run:
- 7.56am from Durham to Newcastle
- 7.20am from Darlington to Newcastle, also calling at Durham at 7.38am
- 7.50am from Darlington to Newcastle, also calling at Durham at 08.17
- 7.10am from Leeds to Newcastle, also calling at York at 7.41am
- 7am from Doncaster to Newcastle, also calling at York at 7.29am and Northallerton at 7.50am
- 7.05am from Edinburgh Waverley to Newcastle, also calling at Dunbar at 7.28am, Berwick-upon-Tweed at 7.55am, Alnmouth at 8.17am and Morpeth at 8.32am. This train continues forward as the 8.52am departure to London King's Cross.
LONDON NORTHWESTERN RAILWAY
There will be a reduced service to and from London Euston this Saturday and Sunday due to some lines being closed by engineering work in the Northampton area.
On Saturday, trains between London Euston and Northampton / Birmingham New Street will run between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central only, and between Northampton and Birmingham New Street.
Replacement buses will run between Milton Keynes Central and Northampton.
On Sunday, trains between London Euston and Northampton / Birmingham New Street will run between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central only, at a reduced timetable, and between Northampton and Birmingham New Street.
Trains between London Euston and Crewe via Northampton will run between London Euston and Milton Keynes Central and between Northampton and Crewe only.
Replacement buses will run between Milton Keynes Central and Northampton.
Engineering work is also taking place between North Wembley and Bletchley, closing some lines as follows.
Saturday:
- The 0.09am London Euston to Milton Keynes Central will call at Bushey for customers to disembark only.
- The 0.39am London Euston to Milton Keynes Central will not call at Bushey.
- The 10.37pm London Euston to Milton Keynes Central will call at Bushey for customers to disembark only.
- The 11.30pm London Euston to Milton Keynes Central will call at Bushey for customers to disembark only.
Sunday:
- The 0.09am London Euston to Milton Keynes Central will call at Bushey for customers to disembark only.

LONDON OVERGROUND
No service between Barking and Barking Riverside on Sunday. Passengers are advised to use local London buses connections on route EL1.
Normal service on all other London Overground lines.
LONDON UNDERGROUND
PICCADILLY LINE: From 1am on Saturday and all day Sunday, no service between King's Cross St Pancras and Cockfosters. Transport for London advises using the Victoria line between King's Cross and Finsbury Park and Night Bus N91 during Night Tube hours.
Replacement buses will operate during the day only. Service PL5 will run Finchley Central (for Northern line) - Arnos Grove - Southgate - Oakwood – Cockfosters.
Service PL6 will run Finsbury Park (for Victoria line) - Manor House - Turnpike Lane - Wood Green - Bounds Green - New Southgate (for National Rail) - Arnos Grove.
WATERLOO & CITY LINE: Normal closure on the Waterloo & City line, which is always shut at weekends. It only operates Monday to Friday between 6am and 00.30am.
Normal service on all other London Underground lines.
LUMO
Amended timetable on Sunday with southbound services arriving London King's Cross later than normal, and northbound services departing King's Cross earlier than normal. This is due to a diversion between King's Cross and Stevenage.
MERSEYRAIL
Normal service all weekend.
NORTHERN
Buses replace trains between Huddersfield and Lockwood every Sunday until October 22 as part of the Transpennine Route Rail Upgrade.
Buses will replace some trains between Huddersfield and Halifax on Saturday.
On Sunday, a revised timetable between Manchester Airport - Manchester - Wigan/Southport, with buses operating some services.
On Sunday, buses replace trains between Stockport and Buxton.
On Sunday, the 10.25pm Leeds to Knottingle service will terminate at Wakefield Kirkgate. A bus will be provided instead.
SCOTRAIL
Engineering work is taking place between Stirling and Perth across the weekend, closing some lines.
SATURDAY
- Edinburgh – Inverness services: Train services divert via Fife and do not call Stirling. Alternative train services operate between Edinburgh and Stirling. Buses replace trains between Stirling and Perth.
- Edinburgh – Dunblane services: Buses replace trains between Stirling and Dunblane
- Glasgow Queen Street – Inverness / Elgin services: Buses replace trains between Glasgow Queen Street and Perth.
- Glasgow Queen Street – Aberdeen services: Buses replace trains between Glasgow Queen St and Perth.
- Glasgow Queen Street – Perth / Dundee / Arbroath services: Train services operate between Glasgow and Stirling and between Perth and Dundee / Arbroath. Buses replace trains between Stirling and Perth, calling, Bridge of Allan, Dunblane and Gleneagles. The 23:05 and 23:35 Glasgow Queen Street to Perth services will be replaced by buses throughout.
SUNDAY

Engineering work is taking place between Ramsgate, Canterbury West and Deal this weekend, closing all lines on Saturday and Sunday.
This will affect routes between London Charing Cross, London St Pancras International and Ramsgate.
On the Paddock Wood line, trains between London Charing Cross and Ramsgate via Ashford International will only run between Charing Cross and Canterbury West. On Sunday, these trains will run from London Cannon Street because of further engineering work.
On the High Speed line via Ashford, trains between London St Pancras International and Margate via Canterbury West will only run between St Pancras and Canterbury West.
Trains between St Pancras and Ramsgate via Dover Priory will only run between St Pancras and Deal.
Accessible replacement buses will be operated between:
- Canterbury West and Margate calling at Ramsgate and Broadstairs.
- Canterbury West and Ramsgate calling at all stations.
- Deal and Ramsgate calling at Sandwich.
SOUTH WESTERN RAILWAY
Major engineering works in the Wimbledon area will affect South Western Railway services in and out of London Waterloo all weekend.
WIMBLEDON AREA
The lines in the Wimbledon area will be closed all weekend due to maintenance work. Berrylands station will be closed all weekend.
SATURDAY
- London Waterloo to Weymouth services will be revised.
- London Waterloo to Portsmouth via Eastleigh services will start from Basingstoke.
- London Waterloo to Portsmouth via Guildford services will be revised with some services starting from Woking.
- London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids services will be revised.
- London Waterloo to Salisbury stopping services will start from Basingstoke.
- London Waterloo to Alton services will start from Woking.
- London Waterloo to Basingstoke stopping services will start from Woking.
- London Waterloo to Chessington South services will not run.
- London Waterloo to Dorking services will not run.
- London Waterloo to Guildford via Epsom services will start from Epsom.
- London Waterloo to Shepperton services will be revised and will be diverted between Clapham Junction and Kingston via Richmond.

- London Waterloo to Poole/Portsmouth via Eastleigh services are revised all day due to other work taking place in the Wimbledon area. A revised service will run between Eastleigh and Fareham.
- Southampton Central to Portsmouth stopping services will terminate at Fareham.

SOUTHERN
REDHILL
Buses will replace trains to, from and via Redhill on Saturday and Sunday.
Engineering work is taking place between Purley and Earlswood, closing all lines via Redhill – and seeing buses replace trains to, from and via Redhill.
On Saturday, buses will replace trains between:
- Purley and Horley / Gatwick Airport via Redhill.
- Purley and Reigate via Redhill.
- Redhill and Tonbridge.
- Redhill and Edenbridge.
A revised Southern train service will run between Edenbridge and Tonbridge, and also between East Croydon / Purley and Gatwick Airport.
On Sunday, buses will replace trains between:
- Purley and Horley / Gatwick Airport
- Purley and Reigate via Redhill
- Redhill and Tonbridge
A revised Southern train service will run between East Croydon / Purley and Gatwick Airport.
CLAPHAM JUNCTION – WATFORD JUNCTION
Engineering work is taking place between Shepherd's Bush and Watford Junction, closing some lines for part of the weekend.
From 8pm on Saturday until 12pm on Sunday, and after 9pm on Sunday, Southern trains will not run between Shepherds Bush and Watford Junction.
Additionally, from 2am until 9am on Sunday, no trains will run between Clapham Junction and Watford Junction.
LONDON BRIDGE AND SOUTH LONDON
Engineering work is taking place between London Bridge and Streatham Common via Tulse Hill, closing all lines on Saturday and Sunday.
This will affect trains between London Bridge and Beckenham Junction, and East Croydon via Tulse Hill.
Buses will replace trains between London Bridge and Streatham Common via Tulse Hill. A revised train service will run between Streatham and East Croydon.
STANSTED EXPRESS
Normal service on Saturday.
On Sunday, due to maintenance work between Broxbourne and Stansted Airport, until 11.15am trains will operate between London Liverpool Street and Broxbourne connecting into rail replacement coaches running between Broxbourne and Stansted Airport.
THAMESLINK
FARRINGDON
No trains will run via Farringdon from late on Saturday and all day on Sunday, due to engineering work taking place between London St Pancras International and London Bridge, closing all lines.
On Saturday and Sunday, trains between Sutton and St Albans will not run.
On Saturday and Sunday, trains between London Blackfriars and Sevenoaks will be amended to run between London Victoria and Sevenoaks, at a reduced frequency of one train per hour.
On Saturday only, services between Peterborough and Horsham will additionally call at Purley. After 8pm, trains between Luton and Rainham will run between Kentish Town and Rainham only.
On Sunday, no trains will run between London St Pancras International and London Blackfriars and London Bridge.
REDHILL
Separately, no trains will run via Redhill all weekend. As a result, buses will replace trains between Purley and Horley / Gatwick Airport calling at stations via Redhill.
A revised Thameslink train service will run between East Croydon / Purley and Gatwick Airport via alternative lines.
Replacement buses will run between Purley, Horley and Gatwick Airport.
TRANSPENNINE EXPRESS
SATURDAY
No trains between Huddersfield and Leeds due to engineering work. Services will be diverted where possible, and bus replacement services will be in place:
- Liverpool Lime Street - Newcastle: Services will divert on the Calder Valley route between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria and will not call at Huddersfield. These services will call additionally at Brighouse for customers travelling to Huddersfield, as well as at Lea Green.
- Manchester Airport - Saltburn: This service will only run between Manchester Victoria and Saltburn. Services will also divert on the Calder Valley route between Dewsbury and Manchester Victoria and will not call at Huddersfield. These services will call additionally at Brighouse for customers travelling to Huddersfield.
- Manchester Piccadilly – York – Scarborough: A shuttle service will only run between York – Scarborough. Customers will need to change at York for onward connections.
- Huddersfield – Manchester Piccadilly (local stopping service): This service will run as normal
- Leeds – Huddersfield (local stopping service): This service will not run.
Bus services will run as follows:
- Huddersfield Brighouse: Direct buses will operate between Huddersfield and Brighouse. Approximate journey time: 15 mins. Customers travelling for all stations towards Leeds from Huddersfield should board rail replacement services to Brighouse and change for rail services.
- Huddersfield Mirfield: An hourly bus will run between Huddersfield and Mirfield calling at all Deighton. Approx journey time: 20 mins.
- Huddersfield Manchester Airport: An hourly bus service will run between these two stations, calling at Stockport. Approx journey time: 80 mins.
Additional late evening bus services will run between Huddersfield and Leeds, calling at Deighton, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, Batley, Morley and Cottingley.
SUNDAY
Again, there will be no trains between Huddersfield and Leeds due to engineering work. Here are the planned rail services on Sunday:
- Liverpool – Manchester Victoria – York: An hourly service will run from Liverpool Lime Street to York. These services will be diverted between Manchester Victoria and Dewsbury and will not call at either Stalybridge or Huddersfield. An additional call will be made at Brighouse for customers travelling to/from Huddersfield.
- Huddersfield – Manchester Piccadilly: An hourly service will run calling at Slaithwaite, Marsden, Greenfield, Mossley and Stalybridge.
Bus services will run as follows:
- Huddersfield – Brighouse: Two direct bus services an hour will operate between Huddersfield and Brighouse. Approximate journey time: 15 mins. Customers travelling towards Leeds from Huddersfield should board rail replacement services to Brighouse and change for rail services.
- Huddersfield – Leeds (all stops): A bus will run every hour calling at Deighton, Mirfield, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, Batley, Morley and Cottingley. Approximate journey time: 81 mins.
- Huddersfield – Manchester Airport: A bus will run every hour calling at Stockport. Approximate journey time: 80 mins
TRANSPORT FOR WALES
Buses continue to trains between Pontypridd and Treherbert until February 2024.
Buses also continue to replace trains between Machynlleth and Pwllheli until December 1.
No other changes to the normal service on Saturday or Sunday.
TRANSPORT FOR WALES: Almost the entire Transport for Wales network (shown above) will be closed during the strike day
WEST MIDLANDS RAILWAY
There will be an amended service between Worcester Foregate Street and Great Malvern and Hereford on Saturday and Sunday.
This will impact West Midlands Railway between Birmingham New Street and Great Malvern and Hereford.
Buses will replace trains between Worcester Shrub Hill, Worcester Foregate Street and Great Malvern and Hereford.
Great Western Railway routes between Portsmouth Harbour and Bristol Temple Meads to Worcester Foregate Street will also be affected (see above GWR section).
