M6 shut and drivers face two-hour delays after man dies

The M6 was closed after a man died this morning. Police and paramedics were called to the scene, betwen junctions three and two, just before 5am. They found a man who was confirmed dead at the scene.

The M6 was closed southbound between junctions 4A, for the M42, and two, for the M69, and was set to remain shut well into the morning. The closure sparked congestion stretching ten miles, with two-hour delays.

Warwickshire Police is investigating.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was called at 4.58am and sent a paramedic officer and the Critical Care Car from The Air Ambulance Service to the scene. A spokeswoman says: “On arrival, crews found a male patient.

“Sadly, it quickly became clear that, due to his injuries, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”

National Highways told drivers: "Due to the nature of this incident, the road is expected to be closed throughout the morning. If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time as there is over ten miles of congestion on approach to the closure at J4a, resulting in a 120 minute delay.

"Plan ahead, you may wish to re-route or even delay your journey. Warwickshire Police are leading the incident. National Highways Traffic Officers are providing support with traffic management."
