M5 crash: Motorcyclist suffers leg injury after collision with van

A motorcyclist was rushed to hospital with a leg injury after a serious crash on the M5 in Gloucestershire. The incident took place near junction nine, Tewkesbury[1], on the northbound side of the motorway at around 5.20pm on Friday (September 22).

National Highways confirmed the crash during a busy rush hour period[2] involved a motorbike and van. The collision led to part of the M5 to be closed at around 6pm while the incident, which was described by emergency services as "serious", was dealt with.

The closure was lifted around 35 minutes later, although delays remained on the road until around 7.55pm. Gloucestershire Police[3] confirmed the biker was taken to hospital with a leg injury.

A statement from the force said: "A man was taken to hospital for treatment to a leg injury following a collision between a motorcyclist and van on the M5 yesterday afternoon. The carriageway reopened shortly before 7pm and officers would like to thank those caught up in traffic for their co-operation."

A police spokesperson confirmed to GloucestershireLive[6] that the biker was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital for treatment.
