M20 traffic recap after ‘severe’ delays due to crash and broken-down …

The M20 southbound was brought to a standstill with all traffic held due to a two-car crash near Ashford. This was followed by another temporary hold and a two-lane closure due to a broken-down lorry. The first incident was first reported shortly after 7.30am on Tuesday (September 5) and saw three miles of build.

Severe delays of nearly an hour grew on the coastbound carriageway, according to live traffic information from the AA. Drivers were seen queuing on the motorway between Junctions 9 and 10, with disruption towards Junction 8.

Travel service Inrix said: “All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to accident, two cars involved on M20 coastbound from J9 A20 Fougeres Way (Ashford) to J10 A2070 (Ashford South).” The AA added: “All lanes stopped and stationary traffic due to crash, two cars involved on M20 coastbound.”

It later added: "All traffic being temporarily held and stationary traffic due to broken-down lorry on M20 Eastbound from J9 A20 Fougeres Way (Ashford) to J10 A2070 (Ashford South). Cameras show traffic has been held prior to the lorry breakdown whilst cones are placed."

The road reopened around 1pm. Recap our live blog below for the latest updates on this incident and travel in the area as we had it.
