City centre road remains closed after car crashed into railway bridge

A main city centre road remains closed today after a car crashed into a railway bridge[1]. The crash happened near the junction of Bradley Road and Watery Road, Wrexham[2] shortly before 3pm yesterday.

Police and ambulance crews were called and the road was closed while they worked at the scene. Nobody was injured in the incident, but the road, which goes over a railway line, remained shut today while engineers assessed the bridge.

A car ended up on top of a metal barrier which runs between the road and the bridge wall following the crash. A large hole could be seen in the bridge.

A North Wales Police[5] spokesperson said: "Shortly after 2.20pm today (Thursday, 28 September) we received reports of a single-vehicle collision, in which a car had collided with a railway bridge on Bradley Road, Wrexham. Officers and an ambulance crew attended before a temporary road closure was enforced.

"No injuries were reported from the scene. The road remains closed whilst structural damage to the bridge is assessed by Network Rail engineers."
