Lymm service station on the M6 is the UK's cleanest, according to new research. The J20 services, close to the M56, have also been rated among the cheapest.

The results stem from new research[1] by Hippo Leasing who analysed 12,738 reviews from 110 of the UK’s official service stations to reveal which are deemed the cleanest, dirtiest, cheapest and priciest by visitors. It was based on how many times keywords relating to each category are mentioned within the individual reviews.

As a result, Knutsford services - also located on the M6 - was ranked in the top ten 'dirtiest' stations. The data reveals no Cheshire services were among the highest ranked stations for cost.

The research carried out by Hippo Leasing states: "According to our data, we can see that the Motorway Services in Lymm ranked as the cleanest and tidiest service station in the UK. Lymm services, found on the M6 near Manchester, had 243% of reviews containing cleanliness-based keywords, meaning most of their reviews received two or more positive mentions of the service station being 'clean', 'neat', 'pleasant' and 'tidy' etc.

"Reviews for Lymm say it’s 'Refreshingly better than a normal services', and that it is 'clean and tidy' with customers feeling like they were 'well looked after'." Lymm services was also ranked fifth in terms of the cheapest services, behind Barton Park, Carnforth Truck Heaven, Ashford truckstop and Medway.

Knutsford services was ranked tenth in the list of 'dirtiest' stations in the UK, according to the research. Explaining the methodology, Hippo Leasing added: "Hippo Leasing analysed 12,738 online reviews written about the 110 official motorway service stations listed on the MotorwayServices website. Filtering for 46 keywords relating to cleanliness, dirtiness, cheapness, and expensiveness, to find all the service station reviews where those terms were mentioned.[4]

"Hippo Leasing then ranked the service stations by the number of mentions, divided by the number of reviews, which then gave a percentage of times certain keywords were used within the reviews to rank the service stations in order of most reviews mentioning the keywords."

A Moto spokesperson said: “Moto has a broad customer experience strategy aimed at improving motorists’ experience at our sites in a number of key areas. We are continually investing in EV charging infrastructure, improving our site facilities, building new sites and optimising our application of data to drive a better customer experience so it is good to see Moto Lymm has claimed the top spot for cleanest service station in the UK.
