Biker airlifted to Royal Stoke as police tell drivers ‘avoid the area’

A biker has been airlifted to hospital following a 'serious collision' in the Moorlands. The patient received 'specialist trauma care' before being flown to the Royal Stoke after the crash in Upper Hulme.

And Staffordshire Police has urged motorists to find alternative routes with a stretch of Leek Road just off the A53 currently shut. Officers, along with paramedics and two air ambulances were called to the scene at around 12.20pm following reports of a crash between a motorbike and a car.

As reported by StokeonTrentLive[1] the stretch of Leek Road had to be coned off from Buxton Road while emergency services tended to the patients. West Midlands Ambulance Service say the biker was found 'in a serious condition' while the driver of the car has been discharged with minor injuries.

A spokesman said: "We sent one ambulance, two paramedic officers, a North Staffordshire BASICS doctor and the Midlands Air Ambulances from Cosford and Staffordshire to the scene. On arrival we discovered a man, the motorcyclist, in a serious condition.

"He received specialist trauma care at the scene before being airlifted to Royal Stoke University Hospital. A woman, from the car, was assessed and discharged with minor injuries."

Staffordshire Police[2] have asked motorists to avoid the stretch. A spokesman said: "We have closed Leek Road in Longnor following a serious collision today.

"It happened just before 12.20pm and involved a motorbike and a car. Officers are currently at the scene with paramedics from West Midlands Ambulance Service[3] and Midlands Air Ambulance.

"Motorists are urged to find alternative routes of travel where possible and avoid the area. "
