National Highways says that the closure will remain in place throughout the morning rush hour and advises motorists to plan ahead.

There are long delays in the area, with traffic building up on surrounding roads.

A diversion route is in place following the crash, which happened at around 4.45pm.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, South Central Ambulance Service and Thames Valley Police were all at the scene for several hours yesterday after the lorry, which was transporting a 24 tonne digger, left the carriageway.

The recovery began at around 10pm last night, when the northbound carriageway was closed completely by National Highways to allow the complex recovery to take place.

After the lorry has been recovered the damaged barriers will also need repairing.
