A young person was seen 'recklessly' riding an e-scooter on the wrong side of the road in an Essex high street. Police officers discovered the youngster riding the e-scooter in Wickford High Street, in the direction of oncoming traffic.

Wickford Officers from the Basildon Community Policing Team seized the e-scooter over the weekend (August 6). The incident is part of the larger problem of youths and children congregating on pedal cycles and e-scooters and causing a nuisance to retailers, pedestrians and motorists around the high street, according to Essex Police.

It said: “Parents and guardians are reminded that e-scooters are illegal to ride in public places. Anyone seen riding them in a dangerous manner causing a danger to themselves and others will be dealt with robustly.”

The seizure is part of Operation Blooming, which aims to address the public’s concern about antisocial behaviour in the area.
