TfL this weekend August 25 to 28: Bank holiday weekend disruption …
London’s Notting Hill Carnival is second only to Brazil’s Rio Carnival in size with over 50,000 people performing over the weekend.
Over the August Bank Holiday weekend, there will be several major events taking place in London, including the annual Notting Hill Carnival event.
Transport for London (TfL) has asked Londoners to check before they travel as they expect services will be busy.
To get the most latest updates on the Underground, DLR and Overground you can use the TfL app or website.
Here is the full list of closures over the long weekend, August 25 to 28.
Notting Hill Carnival
The route of Notting Hill Carnival runs close to many London Underground stations and is easily walkable. Plan ahead and consider larger, better connected stations nearby such as Paddington or Shepherd’s Bush. These stations are expected to be less crowded with plenty of service options so you may find it an easier and more comfortable journey.
Some stations are expected to be very busy, including Oxford Circus, Notting Hill Gate, Westbourne Park and Holland Park.
National rail strikes
On Saturday August 26, several National Rail train operating companies will be affected by strike action, with further strikes taking place next week on Friday 1 and Saturday September 2.
Although TfL staff are not taking strike action, there may be some minor impacts to TfL services. For more information on the strikes, visit the National Rail website.
Tower Bridge closure
From 10pm on Friday August 25 until 5am on Tuesday August 29, Tower Bridge will be closed to all users including pedestrians.
This is while the City of London carries out maintenance work. Adjacent river crossings are expected to be busy, so please plan ahead and use alternative routes and crossings to complete your journey.

Piccadilly line
Saturday 26 to Monday August 28
No service between Arnos Grove and Cockfosters, including Friday and Saturday Night Tube
A rail replacement bus service will run every 10 minutes. Night Tube customers should use
Night Bus route N91.
No service between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge
Use the Metropolitan line between Rayners Lane and Uxbridge.

Saturday 26 to Monday August 28
No service between Surrey Quays and New Cross
Use local bus routes 53, 177 or 453 between New Cross and New Cross Gate.
Sunday 27 to Monday August 28
No service between Barking and Barking Riverside
Use local bus routes EL1, EL2 and EL3 for Barking Riverside.
Elizabeth line
Monday 28 to Thursday August 31
Trains will not stop at Burnham or Taplow after 8.30pm each night
A rail replacement bus service will run.
DLR
Until Monday August 28
No service between Stratford International and Canning Town
Use the Jubilee line or local bus routes. For Stratford and Stratford International, use bus routes 97 or 108. For Stratford, Stratford High Street, Abbey Road, West Ham and Star Lane, use bus route 276. For Star Lane and Canning Town, use bus route 323.
Woolwich Ferry
Until Sunday September 3, the Woolwich Ferry is closed for essential dry dock works. Drivers are encouraged to use alternative river crossings at Dartford, Blackwall, and Rotherhithe.
Pedestrians should use the Woolwich Foot Tunnel or the DLR between King George V and Woolwich Arsenal.

Friday August 25
Twickenham Stadium
South Africa will be playing New Zealand in a rugby match at Twickenham Stadium from 6pm until 11.15pm. Kick-off is at 7.30pm. Gates open at 5pm and road closures will be in place from approximately 5.30pm until 11.15pm Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Friday 25 to Sunday August 27
Damyns Hall Aerodrome
The We are FSTVL music festivals will be taking place at the Damyns Hall Aerodrome from 11am until 11pm each day. Large crowds are expected.
Friday 25 to Monday August28
Victoria Park
The All Points East Festival will be taking place in Victoria Park from 1pm until 11pm each day. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Saturday August 26
Woolwich area
The Action Challenge Charity Walk will be taking place in the Woolwich area from 10.30am until 1.30pm, starting and finishing at the Woolwich Royal Artillery Barracks via the Woolwich underpass. Large crowds are expected.
Central London area
A demonstration will be taking place from 11am until 5pm starting in Marble Arch and ending in Parliament Square. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Twickenham Stadium
A rugby match between England and Fiji will be taking place at Twickenham Stadium from 10.30am until 10pm. Kick-off is at 3.15pm. Gates open at 11.45am and road closures will be in place from approximately 1.15pm until 7.30pm. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Tooting Broadway area
A demonstration will be taking place in the Tooting Broadway area from 12pm until 3pm. Large crowds are expected.
The Oval
The Hundred Cricket event will be taking place at the Oval from 2.30pm until 9pm. Large crowds and increased traffic are expected.
The O2, North Greenwich
The O2 will be hosting the Big 3 Basketball event from 3.30pm until 8pm. Large crowds are expected.
Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park, Notting Hill
The Notting Hill Carnival Panorama event will be taking place in Emslie Horniman’s Pleasance Park from 10am until 11pm. Kensal Road and Elkston Road will be closed to all traffic during the event. Large crowds are expected.
Saturday 26 and Sunday August 27
Lee Valley Showground
The Eastern Electrics and Maiden Voyage Festival will be taking place at the Lee Valley Showground from 12pm until 10pm each day. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Cranford Community College, Hounslow
The Goan Festival will be taking place at Cranford Community College from 1pm until 8pm each day. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Saturday 26 to Monday 28 August
Battersea Park
The Battersea Park concerts will be taking place in Battersea Park from 2pm until 11pm each day. Large crowds are expected.
Sunday August 27
West India Quay/Canary Wharf areas
The Super League Triathlon will be taking place in the West India Quay and Canary Wharf areas. Large crowds are expected.
Lord’s Cricket Ground
The Hundred Cricket event will be taking place at Lord’s Cricket Ground from 2.15pm until 9pm. Large crowds and increased traffic are expected.
Wembley Stadium
Wembley Stadium will be hosting the AEW Wrestling event from 4pm until 11pm. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Sunday 27 to Tuesday 29 August
Notting Hill area
The Notting Hill Carnival will be taking place in the Notting Hill area on Sunday 27 and Monday August 28. There will be extensive road closures in place for the event from 6am on Sunday until 6am on Tuesday approximately.
Bus diversions are expected to start at 9pm on Saturday August 26. Increased traffic and large crowds are expected.
Monday August until Summer 2024
Kingston Cromwell Road bus station
From Monday August 28 until Summer 2024, Kingston Cromwell Road bus station will close temporarily. During the works, buses will not stop at the bus station. Some buses which normally stop in the bus station or on Cromwell Road will serve temporary stops, be diverted or stop short of their normal destinations.
Stops A1 to A16 and Z1 will be closed for the duration of the works. Stop R on Wood Street will also be closed. Two new temporary bus stops with shelters will be located a short walk away, to the east of the bus station, on Cromwell Road and the bus lane will be extended.
Cherry Orchard Road, Croydon
Until Monday September 5, Cherry Orchard Road will be closed in both directions at the junction with Cedar Road.
A40, Hanger Lane Gyratory and Gypsy Corner
Until mid-November, there will be a series of lane closures on the A40 between Hanger Lane Gyratory and Gypsy Corner. This is while utility work is carried out for the HS2 rail project.
Delays are expected and you are advised to leave more time for your journey and use other routes where possible. For more details about the works, visit the HS2 website.
