Stagecoach offers NHS workers in cut-price bus travel

Stagecoach West is offering NHS staff working at Gloucestershire Hospital Foundation Trust 25% off all bus travel[1]. The bus operator has launched the initiative to encourage more Trust staff to make the switch from car to bus and get on board with greener travel.

With car parking charges and spaces at a premium, catching the bus means staff benefit from a stress-free and better-value commute to and from work. Rachel Geliamassi, Managing Director, Stagecoach West[2] says: “We’re hoping this new initiative will help ease travel costs for our much-appreciated NHS staff, especially now when every penny counts.

“As well as saving money on transport costs, Trust staff using the bus are doing their bit for the environment. A fully loaded double decker bus can take up to 75 cars off the road and if everyone switched from car to bus just once a month there would be a billion fewer car journeys which is a saving of 2 million tonnes of carbon dioxide being released into the atmosphere.”

Providing a wide range of travel options is an important part of our offer for staff and a cornerstone of our green plans. We also recognise that the cost-of-living crisis has impacted staff across the Trust and I know the discount will be extremely welcome news.”

The 25% discount can be used on tickets covering travel in ‘Cheltenham’, ‘Gloucester’, ‘Cheltenham and Gloucester Plus’ and ‘West Gold’ which includes Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Cirencester, Swindon and Oxford and the offer can be used with the following ticket types:

Ticket details

  • DayRider - With a day ticket you can make as many journeys as you like in one day. Unlimited travel all day means you can travel on all buses within your chosen ticket zone.
  • 7 Day MegaRider – You can use your weekly bus ticket for unlimited travel in your chosen area
  • 28 Day MegaRider - You can buy 28 days for unlimited travel in your chosen area
  • Flexi5 (5 DayRiders for the price of 4) – Flexi 5 lets you to buy a discounted bundle of day tickets. Ideal if you only travel a couple of times a week, they can be used over a 12-month period, so you're free to use them anytime and anywhere in your chosen area.

Tickets must be bought on the Stagecoach app or online[5]. DayRider and Flexi tickets are only available to buy on the Stagecoach Bus app. NHS staff will need a Stagecoach Bus account that is created using a @nhs.net email address and should enter discount code SCGLNHS25. The 25% discount will be applied at the checkout. This discount code is valid until 31st August 2023
