Second man charged over gunshot in west Hull street

Police investigating after a gun was fired in a west Hull street have charged a second man.

Residents reported hearing a gunshot[1] in River Grove, Gypsyville, on July 20. Officers were quickly sent to the scene.

Now, a 24-year-old man has been charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence., after police executed "multiple warrants" in Lancashire. Liam Roscoe, 24, of Skelmersdale, was due to appear before magistrates in Hull today.

It follows the decision earlier this month to charge James Connor[3], 26, from Merseyside, with the same offence. Mr Connor has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Hull Crown court[4] on Monday September 4.

Police stepped up patrols in the area following the incident in July. People living in the Gipsyville area[5] were later asked to scour footage from CCTV and doorbell cams.

At the time, police said they were following “extensive lines of enquiry" and released a map of the area concerned, including River Grove, Lakeside Grove, Priory Grove and Hessle Road. Speaking last month, Detective Superintendent Iain Pottage said: “Whilst thankfully nobody sustained any injuries as a result of the incident and they remain rare in our area, I understand the concern and shock this will have caused local residents.”

In a statement released today (Saturday), Humberside Police said: "Anybody with any further information which they feel may help assist us, please speak to one of the officers who are in the area to provide reassurance. You can also contact us on our non-emergency number 101, quoting log 336 of 20 July.

"Alternatively, if you wish to report to us anonymously, you can do so via the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
