Police give update on horror A13 Pitsea crash that killed teenager …

Detectives continue to investigate the circumstances behind a horror crash on the A13 Pitsea Flyover that killed an 18-year-old and injured four other teenagers. Emergency services rushed to the flyover on July 1 shortly after 2.30pm following reports of a major crash.

Police arrived alongside colleagues from the East of England Ambulance Service Trust. Multiple roads had to be closed whilst the incident was dealt with.

Sadly, Ellie Jo-Evers, 18, from Benfleet, was pronounced dead at the scene while four others were taken to hospital for further treatment. Essex Coroners Court in Chelmsford heard that Ms Evers, a passenger in the rear of the black Ford KA, died from severe head injuries after the vehicle collided with barriers[1] on the flyover.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "One person has sustained life-changing injuries and the others sustained serious injuries but are not life-changing. As none of those injured are now described as ‘life-threatening’ we won’t be providing any further condition update for them. The investigation is ongoing."

No arrests have yet been made and it remains under investigation with the Serious Collision Investigation Unit. Ellie was a pupil at South Essex College before her death.

In a statement, the college said: "South Essex College Group are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic death of ex-student Ellie Jo Evers. Our thoughts are very much with her the family and friends at this sad time."

Heart-breaking tributes were left to Ellie close to the scene of the collision[3] in the days after the accident. One said: "You [were] the best person in my life. You brought the sun to me when my day was cloudy, you [were] the light at the end of my tunnel. Words can't describe how much I miss you. I miss your laugh, your smile, your liveliness."
