More buses for commuters, revellers and school children

Changes to bus timetables mean there will be more services available to commuters. People living in Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud will have more chances to get around[1] where they live thanks to the changes.

A new service will be introduced for school children at a Gloucestershire[2] school, and late-night revellers and shift workers travelling between the city and Cheltenham will have more chances to get home.

Stagecoach West[3] will be making timetable changes to Cheltenham services A, N, W, 66/166 and 94 following a review of journeys and routes.

Bosses hope this will make travel planning easier and improve punctuality for passengers[5]. The improvements will be implemented later this month.

What are the changes?

A key change in Cheltenham[6] will be the introduction of a new service to and from Winchcombe School[7], arriving at 8.35am and departing at 3.17pm via Broadway Road, Becketts Lane and Greet Road.

In good news for late night travellers in the region, frequency has been increased between Gloucester[8] and Cheltenham with services now running every half an hour with the introduction of N94X, as opposed to hourly, between 1am and 4.30am cutting out the need to rely on expensive taxis to get home.

In Stroud[9] there will be adjustments to services 62, 63, 64, 65, 66/166, 67/67A, 69 and 165

There will also be an extra service from Gloucester to Stonehouse[10] at 5.40pm and from Gloucester to Stroud at 5.45pm daily (Monday to Friday) on service 62 and a new 5.15pm journey from Stroud to Gloucester (route C63) from Cirencester College.

On service 64, the 4.40pm departure from Stroud to Great Oldbury on Sundays will now extend to Gloucester giving more flexibility to passengers with the choice of a later journey arriving at 5.38pm.

Cam and Dursley[11] Station will now be served weekday mornings and afternoons on the 65 route, improving train connections for commuters. There’s now a later evening trip to Bussage on the 67 timetable, arriving at 7.43pm Monday to Friday and 7.28pm on Saturdays giving residents more options in their travel choices.

Rachel Geliamassi, managing director of Stagecoach West said: She added: “We want our passengers to have complete confidence in our services and think of taking the bus before any other mode of transport.

Following customer and driver feedback and having looked closely at trip timings, the changes we’re introducing from Sunday August 20 should improve punctuality and, ultimately, reliability for passengers

“Passenger habits, traffic flows and congestion alter over time so it’s crucial we review and adapt our timetables when we need to so we can provide the very best service to our valued customers.”
