Serious crash closes road as lorry and car collide

A serious collision between a car and a lorry has closed a major route through the West Country^[1]. Police have closed the A35 near Axminster, in Devon, following the collision and it is unclear when the road will reopen.

Reports of the collision first emerging at around 1.50pm. Emergency services, including the Air Ambulance^[2], are at to the scene. Traffic monitoring service Inrix is reporting heavy congestion in the area and diversions are in place.

The collision is understood to have happened somewhere between the Axminster turn off and Musbury turn off. At the time of writing, it is unclear how many people have been injured and the extent of their injuries.
