Petrol station and coffee shop drive-thru approved for former …

Plans for a new industrial development to be built on the former Dogsthorpe Landfill site have been given the green light by Peterborough[1] City Council. The decision was confirmed earlier this week.

The application, submitted by FCC Environment Ltd, will see three industrial and commercial units being built on the site. A roadside service area with a petrol station and a drive-thru coffee shop are also part of the plans.

The development is expected to create more than 250 new jobs in the area. Businesses such as Starbucks, Costa Coffee, BP, Esso and Shell are among those rumoured to open on the site, with access off Welland Road close to the A47 roundabout.

A planning statement submitted with the application said: "The proposed development offers an exciting opportunity to improve the site, delivering high quality employment development which would complement the initiatives and development proposals in the surrounding area.

"Each employment unit would have its own car parking and service yard. 118 car parking spaces are indicatively shown for the employment units, the drive thru coffee shop would have 19 car parking spaces. The development would also provide disabled parking, motorcycle parking spaces and cycle store, the exact details of parking would be agreed at the reserved matters stage.

"To not accept this proposal and to simply leave the site in its current underutilised state would be an opportunity missed. The Proposed Development would contribute to meeting local economic needs, creating significant job opportunities, and would greatly improve an underutilised site."

It is hoped that each of the units will be occupied by 2024. The application can be viewed on the city council's planning portal, using the reference 20/00509/OUT or clicking here[3].
