Jacobite train temporarily suspended
The famous Jacobite steam train services that run between Fort William and Mallaig were unable to run from July 15-20 “due to unforeseen circumstances”, according to Jacobite operator West Coast Railways.
In a statement issued on July 17, WCR said that it was unable to offer alternative dates and would be processing full refunds for those booked onto cancelled trains. The operator said that the situation was “completely beyond our control”.
In June, the Office of Rail and Road issued WCR with a Prohibition Notice, relating to the running of the Jacobite, stating: “You are failing to ensure the health and safety of your passengers and crew, thus putting them at risk of serious personal injury, as you are not implementing the controls identified in your risk assessment for rolling stock fitted with secondary door locking.”
