Huge crash involving three lorries and a car closes M40

Part of the M40 in Warwickshire is closed after a huge multi-vehicle crash involving three lorries and a car. The northbound carriageway has been closed between junctions 15, for Warwick / A46, and 16, for the M42, since the crash happened shortly after 9am.

The motorway is down to one lane before Junction 15, causing long queues or traffic and the entry slip road at Junction 15 is also closed. It is not yet clear if anyone was injured in the crash. Trapped traffic has been released and motorists heading north are being told to follow an extensive diversion from Junction 16 and to allow extra time for journeys.

Police and highways officers remain at the scene as recovery work continues. The carriageway could be closed until well into the afternoon.
