‘Great dad’ named after fatal horror crash

A man who was described by friends as a "great dad" has been named following a horror bike and car crash.

Merseyside Police were called to Northern Perimeter Road in Netherton[1] at around 11.10pm on Wednesday, July 19, following reports of a crash involving a red Vauxhall Astra and an orange Honda motorbike. Once officers arrived at the scene they found an injured 48-year-old man.

Despite being treated by paramedics, the man died at the scene. Police have now named the man as Vincent Lawrence.

Police arrested two men aged 25 and 22 from Netherton on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit shortly after the collision. The 22-year-old man has been bailed pending further enquiries in relation to the incident, the other man has been released with no further action.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson from the MATRIX Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our investigation continues following the death of 48-year-old Vincent in a road traffic collision on Wednesday evening. His family are being supported by specially trained officers at this extremely difficult time and our thoughts are remain very much with them.

“I urge anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage, including information or footage prior to the collision, which will assist in the investigation to please get in touch. The road is now reopened, and I thank the local community for their patience whilst we dealt with the scene.”

Tributes have been left at the scene of the incident[3]. One of the notes left on a bunch of flowers reads: "To my best mate Vin, miss you all the world mate.

"We will always be the Grant brothers. Save me a seat up there. Love Wayne, Ged and Neil." Another reads: "To my best friend, I'm devastated beyond words that this has happened. I will cherish our memories we have forever. RIP Vin. Love from Spinny and family."
