Driver in hospital after cement lorry overturns on busy road

The driver of a cement lorry has been rushed to hospital after the vehicle overturned on the A370 at Long Ashton[1]. The road is blocked heading into Bristol following the incident at the Gurney Roundabout.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 2.20pm with the road initially closed[2] while the incident was dealt with. Paramedics treated the lorry driver at the scene before transferring them to hospital for treatment. The injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Traffic is passing the scene but there are tailbacks as rush hour congestion builds. Fire crews remain on scene dealing with the clear up operation.

A spokesperson for Avon & Somerset Police said: "The A370 is blocked northbound after a single-vehicle collision involving a cement lorry near the junction with Colliters Way.

"Emergency services were called to the scene at about 2.20pm today, Thursday 27 July. The driver has gone to hospital by ambulance with injuries not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.

"While traffic into Bristol is currently flowing, drivers are urged to seek alternative routes pending recovery of the lorry."
