Calls to ban lorries from residential Gloucester street

There are calls to ban lorries from travelling down a residential street in Gloucester[1]. Residents want the “immediate reinstatement” of a 7.5 tonne weight limit to heavy goods vehicles from accessing Derby Road.

The petition, which also calls for 20mph speed limits to be installed along the whole length of the street, was handed in to Gloucestershire highways chiefs last week. Councillor Andrew Gravells (C, Abbey), presented the petition at Shire Hall on behalf of division councillor Sajid Patel[2] (C, Barton and Tredworth) who could not attend the Gloucestershire County Council[3] meeting.

He said the petition called for “the immediate reinstatement of 7.5 half tonne access only weight limit to Derby Road with strict enforcement.

“In addition, 20mph speed limits to be placed along the whole length of Derby Road with regular police enforcement. I used to live in the area and represent the area and I totally support the petition. Saj is a hard working councillor and I happily pass this over to Dom.”

Cllr Gravells[5] handed the petition to highways cabinet member Dom Morris (C, Fairford and Lechlade).
