A major A-road in Gloucestershire linking England and Wales saw dozens of motorists caught speeding in May. The A48 at Woolaston was under the watchful eye of the Camera Enforcement Team last month and 56 drivers were caught exceeding the 50mph speed limit.

The Severnside road was the worst road for speeders of the five that were deemed priority sites for the team. The second worst was Nouncells Cross in Stroud[1] where 51 were caught breeching the 20mph limit.

While there were only three motorists caught going above the 30mph limit at Tommy Taylors Lane in Cheltenham. Along Bristol Road in Quedgeley[2], there were 28 caught in the 30mph zone.

While in Old Station Way, Coleford, there were 34 people going over the 30mph limit. The Mobile Camera Enforcement Unit aims to reduce the risks to road users caused by vehicles travelling at excessive speeds.

The mobile speed detection vans operate at over 80 sites across the county and prioritise site activity by examining speed and accident data including intelligence received from communities. Each month, it chooses a number of priority sites to visit.
