Sand laid on key roundabout off A19 after oil spill

A large oil spill at Wolviston roundabout sparked an emergency response and road closure.

Police and fire crews - alongside a team from the council - were called to the A19 in Wolviston, on the roundabout near the A689, off the A19, after a large oil spill.

The road was closed by officers while the incident was dealt with but has since been reopened.

Cleveland Police[1] warned motorists that sand had been laid on the road following the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Officers attended a large oil spill on the A19[2] Wolviston[3] in Billingham[4] on the roundabout near the A689 earlier today (June 6).

"Colleagues from Cleveland Fire Brigade[5] and the council also attended the scene and the road was closed. It has since reopened. Motorists travelling in that direction should be aware that sand has been laid on the road."
