New Rainham Leisure Centre schedule to open to public next month

The opening date for a new leisure centre in Rainham has been revealed. The launch of the centre, based on Viking Way, is scheduled to be opened to the public on July 1.

The centre will be near the Tesco supermarket in the centre of the village. Construction started last year after development was postponed by the pandemic. Former Olympic champion Rebecca Adlington and local councillors commemorated the start of the build in January.

The venue will have facilities including a dance and spin studio, and a 75-station fitness suite will be complete and handed over to Everyone Active, the company that runs the leisure centres in the borough. There will also be a six-lane swimming pool, which will open later this summer.

An onsite tour was given to councillors and Everyone Active personnel ahead of the upcoming opening. The Leader of Havering Council, Councillor Ray Morgon, said: "We continue to be impressed by the new facilities at Rainham Leisure Centre and seeing the project delivered on time is such fantastic work by all the contractors involved.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the centre being enjoyed as a place to stay healthy through exercise, and also somewhere for people of all ages to meet and socialise. This will be a wonderful asset not only for the community in Rainham but for the whole borough.”

Tom Fletcher, Area Contract Manager at Everyone Active, said: "It’s an exciting time for Everyone Active as we can physically see all the hard work on-site coming together ahead of the opening. We are already set to open the fitness suite and dance studios earlier than planned and we can’t wait to welcome visitors.

"We look forward to utilising this site to improve the lives and wellbeing of people in Havering.”
