FOUR appliances from Cornwall fire stations are currenrly in attendance at a road traffic collision with reports claiming a person is trapped.
The incident took place just before 3:30pm on the A30 at Alverton, Penzance, and involved multiple vehicles and a tanker lorry.
The incident is currently affecting traffic coming in an out of Penzance
The road is closed in both directions between Heamoor and Alverton (Mount Misery) roundabouts.
Crews from Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service are also using environmental protection equipment in order to prevent fuel from entering drains.
A spokesperson for Cornwall Fire and Rescue said: "Appliances from Penzance, St Just and a rescue tender from Tolvaddon attended a call to a road traffic collision with one person trapped.
"The accident involved a car and a lorry and crews stabilised the vehicle and then used crash rescue equipment to release the trapped casualty.
"Environmental protection equipment was used to prevent spilled fuel entering the drains.
"At this time the A30 at this location remains closed.
"There are no more details available on this incident at this time."
According to traffic monitoring service INRIX: "A30 both ways closed, delays due to accident, a tanker lorry involved and fuel spillage from Mount Misery Roundabout to Nancealverne (Heamoor Roundabout). Affecting traffic in and out of Penzance."
A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Emergency services were called to reports of a collision between an HGV and a car on the A30 at Penzance at around 3.25pm today, Thursday, June 8.
"One male driver is being checked over by paramedics at the scene.
"A large amount of fuel is reported to have leaked onto the road.
"A closure is currently in place between the Mount Misery and Heamoor roundabouts.
"This is expected to remain in place for some time until recovery of the HGV has taken place and the highway is cleared.
"Motorists are advised to avoid the area."
