M62 Junction 25 traffic latest with two-hour queues and delays in …

There are huge two-hour queues on the M62 near Huddersfield this morning and major congestion in five nearby towns as drivers try to avoid the chaos.

It comes after two HGVs crashed on the M62 westbound between J25 and J24 at around 6.54am. Two lanes have been closed between J25 A644 at Wakefield Road, Brighouse, and J24 at A629, Ainley Top.

Pictures from the scene have been shared with Yorkshire Live. They show piles of debris covering two lanes of the motorway.

Congestion is building up just before J27, Gildersome, Leeds, as well as on routes through Huddersfield, Brighouse, Heckmondwike, Dewsbury, and Mirfield. National Highways reports there are seven miles of congestion.

An update by data traffic site Intrix reads: "Severe delays, two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to recovery work and accident, two vehicles involved on M62 Westbound between J25 A644 Wakefield Road ( Brighouse ) and J24 A629 (Ainley Top). Congestion to just before J27 (Gildersome) and routes through Brighouse and other towns including Heckmondwike , Dewsbury and Mirfield as traffic attempts to avoid the delays.

"Lanes one and two (of four) remain closed. Traffic is slowing on the Eastbound as it passes." National Highways added: "Lanes one nad two remain closed on the M62 westbound between J25 Brighouse and J24 Huddersfield for recovery and clear up works following a collision involving two HGV's.

"There are currently long delays of over 60 mins and seven miles of congestion."
