Live updates: M1 closed southbound J23 serious collision

National Highways say the northbound carriageway will also close to allow air ambulance access.

The scene is now clear and the M1 in Leicestershire has re-opened southbound between J23 & J22 following a serious collision.

Residual delays of around 20 minutes above normal travel times however, these delays should start to clear soon.

The northbound carriageway was initially blocked to allow the Air Ambulance to land. The Air Ambulance has now left the scene and all lanes have been released.

Emergency services including Leicestershire Police are in attendance.

Diversion Route

Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Circle diversion symbol on road signs

Exit the M1 southbound at Junction 23 and take the third exit from the Interchange onto the A512 west.

Continue along the A512 westbound to the A512/B591 Ashby Road East/Ingleberry RoadJunction.

At the junction turn left (south) onto the B591 Ingleberry Road and continue southboundalong the B591 to the T Junction with A591 Nanpantan Road/Copt Oak Road.

At the junction turn right (south) and continue along the B591 passing through Charley Road Crossroads and Copt Oak Crossroads (Whitwick Road junction) to the Copt Oak Road Roundabout.

At the roundabout take the first exit left (east) onto the A511 Little Shaw Lane.

Continue eastbound along the A511 to the M1 Junction 22 Interchange.

Take the third exit to re-join the M1 southbound at J22.
