Essex to sizzle in mini heatwave as temperatures set to be hotter …

Parts of Essex are set to be warmer than Nice in France next week when a mini-heatwave is predicted to bask the county in sunshine. We might only be a week into June - with temperatures a bit chillier than we'd like - but the warmer temperatures are fast approaching ahead of the school summer holidays.

According to the Met Office, Chelmsford will enjoy sunny weather with temperatures of 25 degrees on Sunday (June 10), Monday (June 11) and Tuesday (June 12) before dipping slightly to 24 on Wednesday (June 13). Saffron Walden, meanwhile, will be as warm as 26 on Saturday (June 9) before dipping to 24 from Sunday to Tuesday.

The same period for Nice in France will see temperatures of 24 on a rainy Friday, followed by 24 on June 10 and June 13. It will be 25 degrees on June 11 and June 12.

Even Basildon will be warmer than Nice with temperatures peaking at 26 on June 10 before dipping to 25 on Sunday and Monday, before reaching 24 on June 13.

The Met Office's long-range weather forecast says: "Plenty of dry weather with a good deal of sunshine continuing for most. An area of showers likely moving in from the southwest. These possibly heavy and thundery at times, perhaps most likely across the south and west.

"This area likely to make progress north-easterly across much of the UK through the weekend but low confidence around exact details of this progression, plus the degree of activity. Temperatures generally widely very warm, locally hot, and becoming humid especially in the south and southeast.

"Winds generally light or moderate for most areas. Later, most likely plenty of fine and settled weather with sunny and clear conditions for many parts. Likely to be warmer than normal for much of the UK. Risk of showers, possibly heavy and thundery, especially in southern parts."
