Driver in horror crash with lorry dies as two girls make miracle escape

A MAN has died after a horror crash with a lorry as two young girls made a miracle escape.

Joe Dutfield, 37, passed away after the smash on the A87, between Kyle of Lochalsh and Balmacara.

The collision involved a grey Peugeot 308 a white DAF lorry around 3:50pm on Thursday June 1.

Mercy crews rushed to the scene of the crash and raced Mr Dutfield to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital[1], where he later died.

And two young girls, aged six and 10, who were passengers were rushed to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness[2], and have since been discharged.

Joe's family have paid tribute to him following the tragedy.

In a statement, they said: “Joe was a dedicated and loving father to his girls.”

Cops are continuing to probe the tragic crash and have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Ally MacKay, from the Dingwall Road Policing Unit, said: “Our thoughts are with Joe’s family and friends at this very difficult time for them.

“Enquiries are ongoing and I would appeal to anyone who has not yet spoken to officers to get in touch with us.”
