Cambridgeshire Police have received more than a dozen reports of tyres being deflated in an area of Cambridge in the last week. A spokesperson for the force said 14 reports of tyres being deflated in Kimberley Road and surrounding streets have been made since Tuesday (June 13).

Readers contacted CambridgeshireLive about the tyres being deflated[1]. Notes left on the cars said that an environmental activism group 'The Tyre Extinguishers' was responsible.

The notes described SUVs and 4x4s as 'gas guzzlers'. They said: "We did this because driving around urban areas in your massive vehicle has huge consequences for others."

A woman whose tyres were deflated and who wished to remain anonymous said: "[I'm] not sure exactly what they hoped to achieve but their rationale that SUVs are gas guzzlers is just not true. Two of the eight cars were electric vehicles – mine is ultra-low emission."

A Cambridgeshire[3] Police spokesperson said: "Since June 13 we have received fourteen reports of tyres being deflated in Kimberley Road and surrounding streets. We believe these to be linked and are investigating all lines of enquiry.

"Anyone who sees anything suspicious or has any information is urged to make contact on 101 or via web chat."
