All the planned road closures in Gloucestershire this week

Sometimes roads have to be closed in an emergency, sometimes the road closure is planned. Gloucestershire County Council[1] announces road closures[2] in the county every week.

Below are all the roads and footpaths across the county which are closed for a variety of reasons. This can be for carriageway resurfacing, installing utilities or for another valid cause.

Clegram Road, Gloucester

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close and restrict part of Clegram Road from its junction with Seymour Road to its junction with Bristol Road for a distance of about 285 metres for carriageway resurfacing. There will be no stopping or waiting during the works.

In order to facilitate the works, a temporary suspension of the one way system will be in place for access purposes until all necessary construction works are complete.

The road is expected to be closed and restricted from Thursday June 8, until Sunday June 12 between the hours of 9.30am and 3.30pm only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Public footpath in Cowley next to A417

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to close temporarily part of the public footpaths as below:

  • Public Bridleway ABA 87 from its junction with Public Footpath ABA 89 and its junction with A417 Road in a generally southerly direction for about 335 metres to its junction with Public Footpath ABA 88;
  • Public Footpath ABA 89 from its junction with Public Bridleway ABA 87 in a generally south easterly direction for about 110 metres to its junction with Public Footpath ACY 24;
  • Public Footpath ACY 24 from its junction with Public Footpath ABA 89 in a generally easterly direction for about 235 metres to its junction with A417 Road;
  • The Public Footpaths and Public Bridleway fall within Parishes of Badgeworth and Cowley in Tewkesbury.

The closure is necessary to safeguard the public while site clearance and archaeological digs are undertaken as part of the A417 Missing Link preparation.

The order comes into force 7am, Monday June 5 and it is anticipated that the footpaths and bridleway will remain closed until 7pm on December 5, 2023. This order authorises the closure for a period of up to six months. After this date if the closure is still required it will be necessary to apply to the Secretary of State for an extension of time.

Alternative Route: There are no alternative routes.

Steanbridge Mill to Slad Road, Painswick

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Steanbridge Mill to Slad Road from its junction with B4070 Slad Road to outside the property known as The Old House for a distance of about 200 metres.

The reason for the closure is to allow for installation of a new water main. The road is expected to be closed from June 5, 2023 until August 11, 2023 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed. Emergency access will be maintained. There is no pedestrian access as there is not an existing footway.

Syreford to New Buildings, Sudeley, in Sevenhampton, Cotswolds

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of the C97 – 3/097 Syreford to New Buildings, Sudeley from its junction with Church Lane to outside the property known as Manor Farm for a distance of about 285 metres.

The reason for the closure is for water pipe repair work. The road is expected to be closed from June 6, until June 8 only or until the works have been completed, whichever is later.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian access to adjacent properties will be maintained. Emergency vehicular access cannot be maintained due to the excavations being in the middle of the narrow lane.

Damsells Cross to Damsells Mill Lane, Painswick

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close Damsells Cross to Damsells Mill Lane from outside the property known as Damsells Mill to its junction with the Painswick Lodge to Trench Hill, Cranham for a distance of about 533 metres.

The reason for the closure is to enable pole testing to be undertaken. The road is expected to be closed from 9.30am until 3.30pm on June 9 2023 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – As signed on site. Pedestrian access to premises on or next to the road and emergency access will be maintained.

Tredworth Road, Gloucester

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of Tredworth Road from its junction with Sybil Road to its junction with A38 Finlay Road for a distance of about 482 metres.

The reason for the closure is to allow for a detailed bridge inspection on behalf of Network Rail. The road is expected to be closed from 10pm on June 5, 2023 until 5am on June 6 only or until the works have been completed.

Bristol Road, Gloucester

Gloucestershire County Council has made an order to temporarily close part of the B4072 Bristol Road (southbound only) from its junction with Stroud Road to its junction with Clifton Road for a distance of about 100 metres.

The reason for the closure is for Severn Trent water works. The road is expected to be closed from Monday June 5 until Wednesday June 7 (nights only 8pm to midnight) or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Emergency and pedestrian access will be maintained.

Northway Lane, Northway, Tewkesbury

Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part of Northway Lane from its junction with Shannon Way to its junction with The Park for a total distance of about 500 metres.

The reason for the closure is for street lighting/bollard replacement works. The road is expected to be closed from 10pm on June 19, 2023 until 6am on June 20, 2023 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Lawn Bar Road, Corse Lawn, Chaceley

Gloucestershire County Council wants to temporarily close part of Lawn Bar Road, Corse Lawn from its junction with the county boundary to its junction with Chaceley Hole for a total distance of about 100 metres.

The reason for the closure is for a new water connection. The road is expected to be closed between 8am on June 20, 2023 until 6pm on June 22, 2023 only or until the works have been completed.

Alternative Route – as signed on site. Pedestrian and emergency access to adjacent properties will be maintained.

Gloucester Railway Station footpath and subway

The Secretary of State for Transport has extended the order to temporarily close part of Public Footpath ZGL 116 and unclassified footway and subway from George Street to Great Western Road, Gloucester, from its junction with station approach/car park in a generally north easterly direction for a distance of about 100 metres to its junction with Great Western Road.

The closure is necessary to safeguard the public whilst improvement works take place.

The Public Footpath and Unclassified Footway and Subway was originally closed by Order commencing January 12 2023. However, as the works to remedy the problem have not been completed the Secretary of State has granted a further extension of the Order until January 12 2024 or until the completion of the works, whichever was the earlier.

Alternative Routes – As signed on site. Emergency and pedestrian access to adjoining premises to be maintained.
