Statement from firefighters

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “Just before 2pm this afternoon (Friday May 26), five fire engines from Heywood, Chadderton, Salford central and Broughton fire station were called to reports of a vehicle fire involving a lorry on the M60, between junction 18 and 19.

“Crews arrived quickly at scene and worked to make the area safe. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatuses used two hose reels, a lance, a thermal imaging camera and a short extension ladder extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters have been in attendance for around three and a half hours and are still at the scene.”
