LIVE: Huge queues and HOUR delays on M6 with lanes closed off …
Long queues are forming on the M6 this morning due to multiple breakdowns. Two lanes have been closed off on the southbound carriageway between junction 27 and 26 near Wigan due to a broken down lorry in the roadworks area. Traffic is currently queueing for around four miles.
Two lanes are also shut off on the southbound carriageway between junction 24 and junction 23 due to a broken down van. Congestion is building. A tweet posted by National Highways said: "NEW INCIDENT #M6 southbound between J27 #Wigan and J26 #M58 2 lanes (of 3) closed due to a broken down lorry in the roadworks 30 minute delay and 4 miles of congestion.
"Free recovery en-route. Allow extra time and consider alternate routes (if possible)." Another tweet added: "NEW INCIDENT #M6 southbound between J24 #Ashton and J23 #Manchester #Liverpool #NewtonleWillows #A580.
