Spectator killed after being hit by bike at motocross event

A spectator died after being hit by a bike at the British Motocross Championships in Swindon[1] yesterday (May 14). A second man was also taken to hospital with a serious injury.

Wiltshire Police[2] was called to Foxhill Motocross, on Callas Hill, at around 2.50pm to reports of a crash between a rider and two spectators. It is reported that the rider dismounted from a jump before his unmanned bike collided with the two men.

Sadly, a man, aged in his 50s, died following the crash. His next of kin has been informed.

Meanwhile, a second man, aged in his 60s, was rushed to hospital with a serious injury. The event was cancelled following the crash.

Wiltshire Police said: “At around 2.50pm yesterday (14/05), we responded to an incident at Foxhill Motocross in Swindon involving a rider and two members of the public during a race.

“The rider was dismounted following a jump and the unmanned bike has left the track, sadly killing a man in his 50s. His next of kin have been informed and our thoughts are with his friends and family at this time.

“A second man, aged in his 60s, has been taken to hospital with a serious injury.”

In a statement on their website, the series promoter said: "RHL Activities are saddened to announce that this weekend's meeting at Foxhill in Wiltshire has been cancelled.

"At this moment in time we ask that everyone bears with us and any further updates will be made if required."
