Safety Fears Over Pedestrian Bridge Closure In Kibworth

Safety concerns are being raised ahead of a well-used pedestrian bridge in Kibworth being closed for around six months.

The School Road bridge, which links Kibworth Harcourt and Kibworth Beauchamp, is set to shut in June, so it can be re-built as part of work to electrify the tracks.

The bridge is used by people to get to Warwick Park, as well as youngsters walking to and from Kibworth Primary School and The Kibworth School.

There are concerns when the bridge shuts, the planned diversion route for pedestrians will be unsafe, as it involves crossing two busy roads.

Calls are now being made by for Network Rail to build a temporary footbridge over the railway, which can be used while the main bridge is out of use.

The issue is set to be raised at an information event this evening at Kibworth Grammar School Hall, organised by Network Rail between 6pm and 7pm, to update villagers on the electrification work.

Cllr Phil King, who is one of the district councillors for Kibworth, spoke to HFM:

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We have spoken to the parish council recently and we are aware of their concerns about the diversion route for the bridge.

“We are looking into possible alternatives to the diversion route and we will be in touch with the parish council in due course.”
